All week, a shadow hung over Saturday. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday New York was deep in summer. And every single day the forecast told the same story: the cold is coming back. We hoped, we prayed it wouldn’t be true. Sometimes prayers get answered. This time it got worse. Saturday gave us 50 degrees Fahrenheit, rain that never stopped, hard rain, brutal wind. And there we were, out in the open, in the middle of the Bronx, at the fish market. I’ll be honest with you. I stood there before the show and thought, nobody is coming tonight. Who would. And then I looked up. Thousands of you. Standing for five hours in the freezing rain, not moving, until the very last second. I have played in the rain so many times in my life. Never this long. Never this cold. Never anything like this. Every single one of you, who got there: I need to thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are the real heroes. You stood through it with me, all the way to the end. Every one of you deserves a medal. And here is the joke the sky played on us. The moment we finished, 10pm sharp, the rain stopped. Just like that. How much can the weather mess with you? I still can’t put it into words. And then Knockdown Center. Another five hours. We could only announce that one on very short notice. Thank you. I will not forget this one. Never.
