Your crate on disk, indexed in the browser.
Point ID Crate at your music folder. Tags are read on your machine and only the metadata is stored. Nothing on disk is touched and no audio is uploaded.
All plans.

Index in the browser
Using the browser's folder picker, ID Crate reads artist, title, album, BPM, key, genre, year, duration, bitrate and format from your files locally. The server sees the tags, never the audio. Re-index whenever you like and only the changes are sent.
Duplicates, properly
Two files with the same artist and title are only duplicates if they are the same recording. Groups are scored on BPM within one beat, duration within two seconds, key including enharmonic equivalents, and file size within five percent, so a radio edit and an extended mix are not flagged as the same thing.
Do I already own this?
Answering that on your laptop is slower than it should be. Finder and Explorer search filenames, so a track tagged one way and filed another simply will not come up. The same tune sits in three folders under three names - the promo, the extended mix, the one you bought again last year - and none of them match what the DJ announced. Rekordbox and Serato know, but they mean opening the software, waiting for it to load, and searching a library that only covers what you have already imported. So you guess. Guessing costs money: a second copy of something you own, or a missed ID you decide to skip because checking is too much effort mid-set.
ID Crate answers it in the moment. Your index is built from the tags inside your files, not their names, and matching is done on a normalised artist and title: capitals, punctuation and a bracketed mix label are all ignored, so "Overmono - So U Kno (Extended Mix)" and "overmono so u kno" are the same record. A file you saved as untitled_03.wav is found on its tags like any other.
In Library, everywhere
You never have to run that search yourself. Every match, monitor result and buy list item is checked against your index as it appears. If you already own it you see a badge instead of a buy button, so the answer is on screen before you think to ask. Fuzzy matches can be confirmed or rejected and your verdict sticks.
Compare with Spotify
Sync your playlists and Liked Songs, then see what is in both, what is local only, and what you only stream. Your Spotify top tracks and recent plays are there too, for the times the thing you want to buy is the thing you keep playing.
Questions
- Is my music uploaded?
- No. Only the tags are read, in your browser, and only the metadata is stored.
- Which browsers support folder indexing?
- Chrome, Edge and other Chromium browsers on desktop, which support the folder picker. Safari and Firefox can still use everything else.
- How big a library can I index?
- Tens of thousands of tracks is fine. Indexing runs in batches and can be resumed.
