Guides / Identify from Mixcloud
How to identify the tracks in a Mixcloud mix
Find the tracks in a Mixcloud show: the built-in tracklist, the timed comments, and long-mix fingerprinting for the sections that are not listed.
The quick answer
Copy the Mixcloud link, paste it into ID Crate's Detect Audio and press Detect. The clip is fingerprinted through four recognition services, the frames are read for deck screens and overlays, the caption is parsed and the platform's own tags are checked, and the fused result is verified against Spotify and Apple Music. Most scans finish in one to three minutes. The free plan includes five a month.
If you would rather try by hand first, the free methods below work often enough to be worth thirty seconds.
Copy the link
Links look like mixcloud.com/user/show-name/.
- Copy the address bar from the show page, or use Share.
Try the free methods first
- Open the tracklist tab. Many uploaders fill it in, and Mixcloud shows the current track while you listen.
- Read the description and the comments for the ones marked ID.
- Radio stations often publish the same show elsewhere with a fuller tracklist.
What ID Crate does with a Mixcloud link
- Audio fingerprinting across the show in long-mix mode, returning a timestamped tracklist.
- Caption parsing on the description and the show's own tracklist where it is exposed.
- Platform metadata for the show title and host.
Mixcloud quirks worth knowing
- Mixcloud links are always treated as mixes. Long-mix mode is a Pro Plus feature; other plans get the first minute.
- Coverage per scan is capped at roughly 10 minutes. For a full show, scan the sections you care about by timestamp.
When nothing identifies it
An unreleased track is not in any database, and that is the case for a lot of what gets filmed in clubs. When every signal draws a blank, the clip's audio is compared with every other unidentified scan so you find out if the same unknown ID has been heard elsewhere. From there you can share the hunt with the community, or add it to your crate as an ID and let the daily scanner check the stores until the day it is released.
Questions
- Why not just use the Mixcloud tracklist?
- Do, when it is there. The scan is for the shows where it is not, and for the gaps where a track is marked as ID.
Five scans a month free. No card needed.
