Guides / Identify from Facebook

How to identify a song from a Facebook video or reel

Find the track in a Facebook video, reel or live replay: the caption, the comments, the deck screen, and running all five detection signals on the link.

The quick answer

Copy the Facebook link, paste it into ID Crate's Detect Audio and press Detect. The clip is fingerprinted through four recognition services, the frames are read for deck screens and overlays, the caption is parsed and the platform's own tags are checked, and the fused result is verified against Spotify and Apple Music. Most scans finish in one to three minutes. The free plan includes five a month.

If you would rather try by hand first, the free methods below work often enough to be worth thirty seconds.

Copy the link

Links look like facebook.com/…/videos/…, facebook.com/reel/… or fb.watch/….

  1. Tap Share, then Copy link. Short fb.watch links are fine.
  2. The video has to be public. Group and friends-only videos cannot be read.

Try the free methods first

  • Read the caption and the comments. Promoters posting club clips often name the DJ, and the comments name the tune.
  • Look for a tagged page or event, then check that page's own posts.
  • Pause on any deck screen.

What ID Crate does with a Facebook link

  • Audio fingerprinting with multi-point sampling.
  • Vision over the frames for overlays and deck screens.
  • Caption parsing for tracklists, tags and event details, which club pages tend to include.

Facebook quirks worth knowing

  • Facebook is the flakiest platform to fetch from. If a video cannot be downloaded, the scan is retried automatically and the credit is refunded if it never succeeds.
  • Live replays are long. A normal scan covers the first minute; long-mix mode covers more.

When nothing identifies it

An unreleased track is not in any database, and that is the case for a lot of what gets filmed in clubs. When every signal draws a blank, the clip's audio is compared with every other unidentified scan so you find out if the same unknown ID has been heard elsewhere. From there you can share the hunt with the community, or add it to your crate as an ID and let the daily scanner check the stores until the day it is released.

Questions

Do event pages work?
Paste the video itself, not the event page. The event details are read from the caption where they are present.
